Meet the Photographer: The Heart Behind The Commonplace

Hey there! I’m Marissa Duncan—the face (and camera) behind The Commonplace. If you’re here, chances are you love a good story. So, let me share a little of mine.

How It All Started

My love for photography began when I was 13 and took my first class. Something about capturing moments—the way light dances, the way emotions freeze in time—just clicked for me. But it wasn’t until I met my now-husband Stephen, a photographer at the time, that my passion truly grew. We worked together for a few years, capturing love stories, special milestones, and everyday magic. Along the way, we built not just a business but lifelong friendships with our clients.

Now, I work solo, but my mission remains the same: to tell your story in a way that feels honest, heartfelt, and uniquely you.

When I’m not behind the camera, I’m usually:
📖 Deep in a book (bonus points if it’s something fantasy or historical).
👩‍💻 Helping businesses bring their brands to life through web design and marketing.
👶 Chasing after my little girl, who keeps me on my toes.
🐉 Attempting to manage the daily demands of my cat, Figaro (the fierce dragon of the house), and keep him from trying to rule the world.

Why The Commonplace?

I believe photography should be accessible, natural, and deeply personal. Life isn’t made up of stiff poses or forced smiles—it’s in the laughter, the quiet moments, and the way you light up around the people you love. That’s what I aim to capture.

So, if you’re looking for photos that feel real—whether it’s for your family, your brand, or just for you—I’d love to be the one to tell your story. Let’s create something beautiful together.

📸 Let’s chat! Reach out anytime—I’d love to hear from you!
